Well it has been FOREVER since my last update. I have been super busy and stressed that I have neglected my blog.
Let me start off by saying that I have lost 32lbs since surgery on 01/19/11. That I am thankfull for but I am pissed off on the other hand. I was told that I will hit stalls, and I expected that, but I am not on a stall. I am on a hault. I am not losing weight. I will go 15+ days and not even lose a pound. I was doing so much better losing on my own before I really and regretting it at this very moment. But I cant have my stomach back, I will ALWAYS have to live with the know that I CANT over eat or I will get sick.
I am doing everything right. I get the right amount of protein, calories, and exercise and still nothing. I think I may have an issue with my thyroid or maybe my hormones. I am just looking for a solid reason as to why my body hates me.
I hate it back...

Ode To Caffeine
Well... Today did NOT start off too great. I was all ready to get up at 8:45am to go with my mom to meet her bariatric PA and that alarm hit me in the head like a sledge hammer. I got up and said to myself, "mmmm caffiene!" HM AFRAID not! Damnit. I totally forgot that I can not have caffeine yet since I had VSG. So I called my mom and said that I wasn't coming and went back to bed.
I woke up at 1pm not quite as bad as yesterday but it was late needless to say.
I felt pretty good today, watched my various talk shows like Rachel Ray and the Doctors and then spent some time with my husband when he got home from work at 4.
My pain is now manageable with 1, 500mg pill of Tylenol every 6 hours and then the Lortab at night to help me sleep comfortably. I still am not able to sleep on my right side yet because that is where my largest incision is, but I can sleep on the left just fine. I use a pillow folded in half and hug it to take the pressure off my stomach.
I am SO sick of the clear liquids diet! I have 1 week left and it seems like a year away. Cross your fingers that I will be transitioned to "full" liquids next week. I didn't think that scrambled eggs and cottage cheese could ever sound so good! Damn head hunger is getting the best of me today. Probably doesn't help that I am watching the Food Network too for ideas of what to make my hubby for dinner this weekend! LOL
So my evening is winding down, cheddar cheese soup is on the roster for dinner. I am just chilling out right now with a cup of hot Raspberry Zinger DECAF tea.

I Was Run Over!
I woke up this morning about 11am and had every intention to spend the day out with my mom. I got up, brushed my teeth and took my vitamin and then BAM, it hit me like a Mac Truck! I felt like I got ran over. I started to get a little queezy, thankfully not to the point of vomiting (thank god). So I took my anti nausea med, liquid pain med and acid reducer and layed back down.
As I rolled over I realized It was 2:30 in the afternoon! Holly Molly I slept the whole day away. My mom was coming over in a bit to come get me to take me out to Walmart. I have not been able to eat some of the liquid product that I bought from my surgeons office to drink during the liquid stage. I had to break down and get some REAL RTD (ready to drink) protein shakes that I knew I liked and wanted to drink. I also picked up various kinds of cream soups.
I got home and fixed a can of cheddar cheese soup thinning it with skim milk for extra protein. My mom said that I would probably have half of what I made. So I sat down with about half of it in my bowl. Let me tell you it was the best tasting thing that have past these lips since surgery! I actually was able to eat half of the half. So essential a quarter of the soup. I saved the rest for another day.
Let me tell you today is the first day that I have felt restriction. It must be because the other liquid stuff was so thin that it didn't stay in my stomach. The soup did! And I am glad... I was starting to wonder if my stomach really was smaller because I felt no restriction.
All in all once I woke up from sleeping the day away I feel pretty good. Unfortunately protein has defeated me and there is no way I will be able to get the rest of the 60g left in since it is almost 8pm. Well tomorrow is another day. Yes, my hair will probably fall out. But at least there are some cute wigs out there! LOL

Ugh, Today SUCKS!
Today has been a very emotionally challenging day. I am 6 days postop and on this liquid diet. I am so SICK and BORED of all this liquid shit (in plain english!) that I have to drink.
I have no appetite (which is what I wanted) and because I have no appetite I don't want any of the liquid stuff I have to drink. I guess having my stomach removed so I had a reduction in hunger can be a blessing and a curse. My tastes have changed also and nothing tastes good. I am just bored with the minimal selection that I have to drink until the 3rd of February.
I have my first postop visit next week Thursday with the dietitian and the surgeon to see how I am progressing. I am crossing my fingers and praying that I will be transitioned to the next food stage. Which is mushies! YAY, yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, scrambled eggs... MMMM, my mouth is watering!
I had a little bit of buyers remorse today, I wish I could just EAT something and CHEW instead of just drink. But, I don't regret having the surgery. I just have to be patient.
Take one day at a time Kelli... One day at a time.

A Start To A New Me
I completed my preop diet and lost 12lbs in 2 weeks on it YAY! I weighed that morning 226lbs.
On 01/19/11 my husband, mother, best friend Sam, and mother in law all traveled to a hospital in Grand Rapids MI called Spectrum Blodgett where my surgery would take place at 2pm that afternoon.
I was taken to a private holding room where I put on a gown, had my blood drawn and also a urine analysis. My family was all in the room with me as we were patiently waiting for my time to have the surgery. I saw a nurse, a resident doctor and the surgeon shortly before I was wheeled into the OR.
3:00 came around and anesthesia came in to take me off to the OR. I said my goodbyes and off I went. I was chatting with the anesthesiologist and the nurses as I scooted onto the OR table about how I was super nervous but ready to get this over with. One of the nurses placed a mask over my mouth and nose and told me to breathe deep.
Next thing I know I am waking up in recovery. Waking up wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought it would be. I was groggy and in pain but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. I asked for my Husband and he was brought in the last 10 minutes I was in recovery. I saw him for a bit and then I was wheeled to my room.
I was reunited with my family, they made sure I was ok, and then traveled back home to Kalamazoo.
MAN, that first night was ROUGH! I developed a sensitivity to the pain meds that was given to me on a PCA pump. Every time I hit that button I got violently nauseous. NOT something you want to experience when 85% of your stomach was just removed and it feels like someone stabbed you in the gut! I was switched to another pain med that night and that was the last time I was nauseous.
I stayed 2 nights in the hospital and was released that following Friday. I was to be on liquids for the next 2 weeks while the staple line healed inside my stomach.
Here is a pic of the procedure that I had:

And The Journey Begins
Well... Eh hem... This is my first post! It will be long winded to those that are reading this so sorry!
I have been "morbidly obese" since I hit puberty. It was all down hill from there. I was not overweight as a child but as those hormones kicked in I was done for it. Once puberty hit I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), then a few years later I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and Insulin Resistance. GREAT! Not only do I have obesity genes in my family, I now hade 3 medical conditions that pile on the weight and make it slower and harder to lose AWESOME!
I started my WLS (weight loss surgery) journey over this past summer. I had been supporting my mom who was being worked up for RNY (roux-en-y gastric bypass) for about 2 years. I saw how determined she was to lose the weight for good and it motivated me. I always new that I was over weight but I never thought that I was heavy enough for WLS. I work with several people who have had some form of WLS at GHP (Grand Health Partners) in Grand Rapids MI. I decided to go to GHP because the surgeon my mom used had a waiting list and I was anxious to start.
It was August 26th 2010 that I had my first visit at GHP. I started with a physical and a meeting with the dietitian. I had to do a 90 day monitored program that included weekly classes and weigh-ins for my insurance to cover the surgery. I completed this program at the end of November and lost 30lbs! YES I accomplished something! I had my consultation with Dr. Foote, the surgeon, in mid December and we decided on the procedure called the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy or otherwise known as VSG. My surgery date was scheduled for 01/19/11. I started a 2 week preop diet on 01/05/11 to shrink my liver.
